GOLF

Venue:  Punta Espada Golf Course

The origins of golf remain somewhat murky because several countries invented games that involved hitting a ball with a club at a target. The 11th century French game “palle-mail” or “jeu de mail,” and the 13th century Dutch game “kolven” are arguably predecessors to golf.  A claim has even been made that the Chinese recorded a description of the game in a text written during the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD).

Ranked among the 100 greatest golf courses in the world, this Jack Nicklaus signature design golf course is a great test of your golfing skills during your vacays . Punta Espada starts and finishes on the Caribbean and returns to it early in the back nine, with the awesome 249-yard par-3 13th directly over an ocean cove.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

Venue: Scape Park and all around Cap Cana

Mountain biking has existed in one form or another since the dawn of cycling. Few roads were paved in the 19th century, so most early cyclists rode on dirt roads or trails. Some examples of early off-road riding stand out. One is the 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps, a regiment of riders who customized bicycles to carry gear over rough terrain. In August 1896, the riders, black enlisted men and a white lieutenant, rode from Missoula, Montana, to Yellowstone National Park and back—an arduous trip to be sure! Their mission: to test the bicycle for military use in mountainous terrain. The following year they rode still farther, from Missoula to St Louis.

Handling the bike on a dirt track requires balance, strength and skills. Set your sights on this extreme action sport. Explore the wonders of Scape Park on a Mountain Bike Eco Trail.

Additional bikes are available for rent at Scape Park.

ROAD RUNNING

Road running is the sport of running on a measured course over an established road (as opposed to track and field and cross country running).

These events are usually classified as long-distance according to athletics terminology, with races typically ranging from 5 kilometers to 42.2 kilometers in the marathon. They may involve large numbers of runners or wheelchair entrants. The three most common IAAF recognized distances for “road running” events are 10K runs, half marathons and marathons. Despite this, there are far more 5K road race events, due to their popularity for charity races and similar, less competitive reasons to hold an event.

Road running may offer those involved a range of challenges and interests such as dealing with hills, sharp bends, varied surfaces, inclement weather, and involvement in a large group.

At Cap Cana, different social and educational organizations as the Forjando Un Futuro Foundation and UNIBE have instituted traditional walks and runs throughout Cap Cana streets as the Powernight Run and UNIBE’s Pink Walk against Cancer.

PADEL

Venue:  Marina Cap Cana Beach Padel Courts

Padel is set to become the sport of the 3rd Millenium. Padel is a mix of tennis and squash. It is generally played in doubles, and the ball is allowed to touch the  surrounding walls. Just like tennis, the ball is allowed to bounce only once. Scores are kept in the same way as tennis, however the serve must be underhand.

It was invented in the 1960’s in Mexico and has become very popular in the whole of Latin America, including parts of the USA. In Argentina padel has even more players than football has. The beautiful paddle court at the Marina Beach is a proven workout while enjoying the breeze of the Caribbean Sea.

HIKING

Venue: All around Cap Cana

Ever since our ancestors learned the art of walking, hiking has also become a famous sport all over the world and has been practiced by many people from different races. It depends on what term you call it on the place you live, either hiking, trekking, rambling or even bush walking. With 74 acres of forest and 15+ kilometers of ecological trails, bird and endemic animal watching spots Cap Cana is without a doubt an ecological hiking heaven.

ZUMBA

Venue: Marina Cap Cana Fisherman’s Plaza

Grooving to the beats of salsa, flamenco, and merengue music feels more like a dance party than a workout, which is exactly what makes Zumba so popular. The Latin-inspired dance workout is one of the most popular group exercise classes in the world.

The high-energy classes are set to upbeat music and feature choreographed dance numbers that you might see in a nightclub. You don’t need to be a great dancer to feel welcome in a Zumba class.

Annually the Forjando Un Futuro Foundation and PowerFit Studio celebrates the Zumbathon at Marina Cap Cana’s Fisherman’s Plaza which year after year has increased the acceptance by locals and enthusiasts throughout the island.

KITE SURF

Venue: Juanillo Beach

We can all agree that kite surfing has to be one of the most dynamic and exhilarating sports on the planet. In fact, even people who have never had the pleasure of kitesurfing themselves, are drawn to the sport and fascinated by the speed, insanely high jumps, dizzying combinations of tricks, or the purity of riding the waves like surfers.

STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING (SUP)

Venue:  Juanillo Beach

If you live near any body of water there’s a good chance you’ve heard of — and maybe even tried — stand up paddleboarding (SUP). Stand up paddle surfing and stand up paddle boarding (SUP) (Hoe he’e nalu in the Hawaiian language) are sports originating in Hawaii as an offshoot of surfing. Unlike traditional surfing where the rider is sitting until a wave comes, stand up paddle boarders maintain an upright stance on their boards and use a paddle to propel themselves through the water People all around the world have been flocking to lakes, oceans and rivers in record numbers over the last few years to get in on the SUP action. It has inspired spinoffs like SUP yoga and SUP bootcamps.

While it’s certainly popular among the fitness and leisure crowd, what you may not know is that SUP is a full-on professional sport, complete with grueling competitions and world-class sponsored athletes.

KAYAKING

Venue:  Juanillo Beach

Kayaking is a watersport that involves paddling using a double-bladed oar and a small boat known as a kayak. Kayaking is a versatile sport that can be done in practically any body of water and is easily pared with other activities, like camping or fishing. Different kayaks are designed to handle specific conditions. Some are made for taking on white water courses, while others are built for racing and then there’s everything in between.
