CAP CANA CELEBRATES THE TWELFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PUNTA ESPADA GOLF COURSE

Cap Cana, Dominican Republic. October, 2018. With a Spanish-style weekend paying tribute to the Iberian community living in the country, Cap Cana celebrated the twelfth anniversary of the renowned Punta Espada golf course, with its traditional Cap Cana Golf Cup golf tournament to benefit of the Forging a Future Foundation.

The golfers participating in the sports competition with their companions shared a weekend of all the amenities of the tourist, hotel and residential complex. The players enjoyed the conditions of an exceptional golf course, experiencing once again the experience of competing in a challenging Jack Nickalus-style Punta Espada.

The opening cocktail was held at the Hotel Eden Roc at Cap Cana culminating with the award ceremony in Los Establos, in a fun atmosphere that recreated traditional Spanish fairs and enjoying Andalusian cuisine, music and dances. As a guest artist directly from Spain, the singer Juan Peña was introduced. The Cap Cana Golf Cup was chaired by Jorge Subero Medina, Executive President of Cap Cana, Efrén García, director of Punta Espada, Lissette de Hazoury and Pilar Zarazua, of the Forging a Future Foundation.

Under the modality of Scramble in pairs playing the 18 holes of Punta Espada, Radhamés Peña and German Puello were the best overall gross score; in Category A in the first place, Andrés Vanderhorst and Jorge Puente, Marcel Olivares and Cesar Rodríguez in second place, and Enrique and Kevin Rodríguez in third place. In category B, the first position corresponded to Dennis Dunphy and Anne Purcell; Rudy Daly and Alex Balbuena in second place, and Amin Abel and José Ariza, in third place. Category C was chaired by Kiko Morales and Pedro Cáceres in first place, Gregorio Martínez and Rafael Álvarez in the second, while the third place went to Armando González and Luis Francis. The winner of the Longest Drive Hole 15 was Edgar Alma, and the Closest to the Pin Hole 7 was won by golfer Ada Saviñón.

The Punta Espada Golf Course, inaugurated in July 2006, is the signature and design of Jack Nicklaus, considered the best golfer of all time and one of the most prominent designers of golf courses in the world. Cataloged as “unique and spectacular” taking into account that 8 of its 18 holes are facing the sea and that each and every one of the 18 holes have views of the Caribbean Sea. It is ranked # 3 on the golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus according to the magazine “Links”, and recognized as one of the best in the world by the magazine “Robb Report”. Punta Espada hosted the “Cap Cana Championship”, official PGA Champions Tour tournament held in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

The Forging a Future Foundation is an entity that emerges from the hands of a group of people who unified their ideas under this seal to help the most vulnerable in the area of ​​the Province of La Altagracia and surrounding areas.

The main focus of Forging a Future are children, which is why a children’s room was created that allowed parents to leave their children well cared for and to go to work in peace. All this, after making a survey of what were the priority needs of the community. This is the origin of what is now known as the “Pequeñas Cometas” ranch, located in Nuevo Juanillo, the first project of the Foundation, which has been growing every year, always integrating the parents of the children, in the process of formation and education. The Foundation benefits 70 families and has an initial Educational Center endorsed by the Ministry of Education.
