DR JAZZ FEST IF BACK AT CAP CANA WITH: Chucho Valdés, El Canario & Walter Smith III with Berklee Global Jazz Institute

The XXIII version of the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival will be held for the second time at Cap Cana with a musical repertoire on August 30 and 31.

Educational workshops will be held in the morning of August 30th and the highly expected Jam will be held in the evening at the Cap Cana Marina. The main concert will be held on August 31st at Los Establos, Cap Cana.

Under the motto “A Tribute to Jazz in Latin America” ​​this summer edition of the DR Jazz Fest will have the participation of: the saxophonist and composer, Walter Smith III, as a guest of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, the renowned Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés and the prominent Dominican salsa player, José Alberto “El Canario”.

This annual musical event is organized by FEDUJAZZ & has the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Cap Cana, the United States Embassy and Karisma.

Marco Pignataro, Artistic Advisor of the Festival and Executive Director of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, indicated the Dominican Republic Jazz Fest symbolizes Latin America’s tribute to the genre.

“Jazz is a modern expression of democracy that is renewed through the creative encounter of musical cultures around the world,” says Pignataro.

The Dominican Republic Jazz Festival presents a rich history spanning more than two decades where internationally acclaimed artists have participated. Some are prestigious Grammy Award winners, including: Esperanza Spalding, Joe Lovano, David Sanchez, Ray Barretto, Néstor Torres, Chucho Valdés, Arturo Sandoval, John Patitucci, Chuck Mangione, and Grammy Award nominee Pedro Pablo “Pedrito” Martínez. Also other great artists have participated like Sandy Gabriel, Josean Jacobo, Guy Frómeta, El Prodigio and La Familia André, among others. This festival is a completely free event. The concerts are open to the public and has a “donors” area with priority seats available for purchase. The proceeds from sales are destined to the charitable programs of FEDUJAZZ, the musical education foundation of the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival.
