With students learning remotely, as parents continue to work from home, the whole family may well be itching for a change of pace—or at the very least, a change of venue. The monotony of spending the work and school day at home is a challenge for everyone, but it also presents an opportunity: to take work and school on the road. With five-star hotels creating remote learning environments—bringing in tutors, certified teachers, and specialists for after-school activities—children can experience a classroom unlike one they’d ever encounter at home. From a Four Seasons treetop classroom to Spanish lessons at Montage Academy in Los Cabos, luxury hotels are offering the supervision of certified teachers, and a chance for your children to engage with the world of travel as an extracurricular activity. Here, the luxury hotels in the U.S. and abroad with certified teachers who can help your children with remote learning.
EDEN ROC CAP CANA
Eden Roc at Cap Cana, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property in the Dominican Republic, offers a remote learning package wherein families staying for 15 days or more can have access to their own in-suite classroom. Beyond the classroom setup, kids learning remotely will benefit from the on-site Children Concierge who, when your kids are on a remote learning break, will take them to enjoy a snack and quick activity before returning to their lessons. Once the school day wraps up, each child participating in the learning program can choose up to two (complimentary) extracurricular activities, including dance classes, Spanish lessons, piano lessons, swimming lessons, arts and crafts, or even educational sessions with the Cap Cana sustainability and ecological expert.
Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo
Like the Punta Mita property, Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property, is also offering a Knowledge for All Seasons program, designed to help children learn remotely with the support of study buddies (including tutors you can book for private sessions). When Costa Rica reopens to American travelers in November, the Four Seasons at Peninsula Papagayo is going above and beyond to create a safe and luxurious experience for travelers. From their partnership with NetJets, which allows guests to book a round-trip private flight at a rate typically reserved for NetJets members, to the curated Private Retreats collection, offering estates and villas for guests keen on residential accommodations, the property is prepared to host longer-term stays. And through the Knowledge for All Seasons program, children can join the resort’s Tree Top School for a learning experience inspired by Costa Rica’s wildlife and natural beauty.
The Shore Club Turks & Caicos
In true island fashion, The Shore Club Turks & Caicos recently launched a learning program called The Conch Kritters Classroom. The classroom is housed in the resort’s Jungle Jam treehouse, and can be reserved for up to two hours at a time for your child. Between the classroom space and the expansive suites, perfectly outfitted for families keen on a long-term stay, there is plenty of room for kids to learn from afar while parents work remotely. The certified teachers leading the Conch Kritters Classroom also offer private tutoring and supervised learning experiences. Further, the program helps children round out their education this year, with a curriculum that encourages them to learn from The Shore Club’s magnificent surroundings. Kritters can take kite-making and kite-flying—the resort is right on Long Bay Beach, a globally recognized location for kite-boarding—or cooking classes. They can also take kayaking or paddleboarding lessons, collect seashells, and do craft projects, all under an instructor’s supervision.
Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, Mexico
Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property just 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta, recently finished a multi-million dollar renovation. The result is a selection of newly refreshed villas and beach homes perfect for long-term family stays. The resort now offers a Knowledge For All Seasons program to accommodate children learning remotely—and parents juggling full-time work with their new role as a part-time teacher. The program has professional educational support, from private tutors to “study buddies” available to help kids with their homework and even attend virtual classes with them to provide additional learning support and supervision. Further, the resort will help broaden your child’s curriculum with their World-Schooling Classes, including Spanish-language sessions, a closer look at the ecosystem surrounding Punta Mita, and after-school surf lessons.
The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, Florida
In response to the remote learning trend, The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property, has set up on-site classrooms, such that kids can learn in an interactive but socially distanced space. They are also committed to bringing hands-on learning safely back into children’s curriculum. To that end, they’ve recently partnered with the Reef Institute in West Palm Beach to offer kids a five-day, four-night Ecology Field Trip Package. Led by a certified instructor from the Reef Institute, children will delve into the world of marine ecology and earth science, discovering the barrier island on which The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island is situated. From studying the coastal biosphere and unique water systems to kayaking and enjoying their time outdoors, the program is meant to inspire young scholars.
