THE DR INTERNATIONAL BIG FIVE FISHING TOURNAMENT & EXPO WAS CELEBRATED WITH GREAT POMP AND SHOW AT MARINA CAP CANA

The Cap Cana Marina as host venue for the tournament, dressed up in festivity to award the “Tease Me” boat with the BIG FIVE 2018 grand prize.

Among a great attendance of fishing and the marine life lovers, the organizing committee of the Dominican Republic International BIG FIVE Fishing Tournament & Expo awarded the Dominican boat “Tease Me” who dominated the fifth edition of the famous fishing tournament taking the grand prize of US $ 5,000.00, whose onboard crew, Edgar Acra, Curtis Melle, Luis Guerrero and Jose Gabriel Heinsen released 6 blue marlin, in what was the great party of the stick and reel in the DR.

During the two fishing days of August 10 and 11 there was an excellent report of catch and releases which reaffirms the destination as one of the best for sport fishing in the Dominican Republic.

In second position was the puertorican vessel “Our Fatherland” adding 750 by fishermen, Víctor García “Pucho”, Juan Carlos Quiñones, Sebastián Hernández and Ricardo Quiñones, the latter taking the highest honors as Best Individual Fisherman to mark with his 3 blue released the prize.

In third place came in the “Amazing Grace” boat whose Venezuelan fishermen Jahrold Maizo, Odemaris Paredes, George Athanasopoulos and the borinquen-dominican Humberto Quintana added 650 points with two blue and one white marlin.

In the category of Best Fishermen, the second place was obtained by the American, Curtis Melle, with 2 blue and in third place Edgar Acra equal with 500 points with his two blue.

Juvenile angler, Diego Manuel Medina was the Best Young Fisherman with two blue marlin with 500 points.

The BIG FIVE had the support of the Ministry of Tourism of the DR and is part of the fishing season and tournaments of Marina Cap Cana, has become a spectacular event where in addition to the participation of outstanding boats and sports fishermen from From Puerto Rico, the United States, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, an extraordinary nautical exhibition called Big Five Expo was held, where a select group of companies exhibited marine products, boats, services, accessories, clothing, Dominican crafts, gastronomic tastings, DJ music , during the three days of the event.

The closure with magnificent awards and trophies awarded to the winners by Alma Taveras, Director of WT Events, a company that organizes this fair each year, was a magnificent night with the presentation of the Joseph Miller Band.

The tournament was held under the rules of the International Game Fishing Association, IGFA, and the Capture and Release system, in lines of up to 30 pounds and Circle hooks to preserve the future of the fish.
