Summers are almost here, and whether you are ready with your bikini body or not, you should be prepared for the sweltering heat. You should be extra careful about your hydration. The humidity and the heat make you sweat buckets, leaving you dehydrated. Sodium and potassium loss through perspiration can also lead to electolyte imbalance. But well-intentioned reminders from family, coworkers and friends, some of us are extra lazy when it comes to drinking water. If this sounds like you, don’t worry. You can try to compensate for the fluid loss in part with a healthy intake of foods that have high water content. Here’s what you should eat this summer to prevent dehydration if you don’t drink enough water.

Watermelons

One of the most popular summer fruits, watermelons are 92 percent water. Apart from being a great hydrator, the fruit is also rich in beta -carotene, lycopene and vitamin C. The nutrient-rich fruit is known to help maintain eyesight, boost immunity and make your skin healthy and supple.

Strawberries

These little berries comprise 92 percent water and also an amazing treat to the tastebuds. Rich in antioxidants and folate, this sweet treat is extremely healthy and is low in calories. Strawberries are known to help maintain low blood sugar levels and also keep your skin healthy.

Cantaloupes or Musk Melons

Melons are made up of 90 percent water and are also rich in potassium, which helps correct electrolyte imbalance. Stock up on these delicious fruits this summer to avoid dehydration.

Pineapples

Who doesn’t like pineapples? With 87 percent water content, this fruit is a must-have during summers. While it has a little more sugar than other fruits, pineapples contain bromelain, an anti-inflammatory enzyme that aids digestion, detoxification and boosting the immune system.

Oranges

This vitamin C-rich citrus fruit comprises 87 percent water. It only helps that it’s delicious.  Oranges also help your body restore its fluid levels as it has potassium and other vital nutrients.

While these foods are great to replenish water, nothing substitutes the real thing. So remember to up your water intake in the harsh summer months. You can also include coconut water, bananas, avocados and yoghurt in your diet for a quick electrolyte boost!
