THRILLING FIRST DAY OF THE POLO CHALLENGE

January 14, 2016 At Los Establos, in Cap Cana, Dominican Republic, the first edition of Polo Challenge was launched, with its first competition, the Bronze Cup, reserved for 22 goal handicap teams, setting a precedent as the disembark of high handicap polo in  Caribbean and Central American shores.

The event features the presence of internationally renowned polo figures, among others, the two 10-goal handicap and members of the best team in the world, La Dolfina: Juan Martin Nero and Pelon Stirlling. The opening day showcased two titanic clashes. In the first game, Agualinda subdued Power Infrastructure by 12-10, with the great performance of Alfredo Vargas, author of 10 goals and was the MVP, but he was very well supported by the strong defense displayed by Pelon Stirling and Jose Donoso; between the Uruguayan and Chilean they made life impossible for the members of Power Infrastructure, who tried by all means to turn around the scoreboard. Anyway, it was a close game, as demonstrated in the final result.

Subsequently, Pitirri / Potranca (which received two goals by handicap) defeated Los Establos 10 to 7, in a highly disputed match, although Pitirri / Potranca started better, with three goals in the first chukker, which forced an extra effort of Los Establos to level the board. Pitirri / Potranca had stars of the match  Lerin Zubiaurre and Rodrigo Rueda Jr., especially Zubiaurre, the match MVP, who scored seven goals and gave a great headache to Cubi Toccalino and Ale Muzzio, from Los Establos, although both of them stood out with very good goals and plays. However, and despite the effort, Los Establos failed to overthrow the advantage Pitirri / Potranca had taken on that deadly first chukker.

The Bronze Cup will continue on Friday January 15th at the Casa de Campo Polo Grounds with the following matches: Samanes vs. Lechuza Caracas, at 2pm and Casa de Campo vs. La Carbuccia, at 4pm.
