Hotels That Have Reopened in Dominican Republic

Source: Travel Off Path

The Dominican Republic, which officially reopened on July 1st, is quickly becoming one of the globe’s hottest vacation destinations in a Covid-era travel world.

Beautiful beaches, affordable prices, and super simple entry requirements have eager tourists from all over the world flocking to the island nation.

No mandatory PCR tests or quarantines has made the Dominican Republic one of the most popular places to go for people who are looking for an easy, laid-back vacation.

But are hotels open? Which ones? And what are their new safety protocols?

Below we have all the information you need about which hotels have reopened in the Dominican Republic and everything else you need to know about having a safe vacation.

Even though the Dominican Republic has been open for tourism since July, many of the big resorts and hotels have just reopened very recently or are still working towards a target reopening date.

In order to reopen, hotels and resorts had to follow new operating guidelines, developed by the Quality Council headed by ASONAHORES (National Association of Hotels and Tourism)

Some of the new operating guidelines and safety protocols include:

  • Temperature checks of guests at check-in
  • Having guests sign a health declaration form upon check in, stating they do not have any symptoms
  • Providing guests with masks and disinfectant gel
  • Redistribution of hotel spaces to allow social distancing in all common areas (reception, restaurants, swimming pools, etc.)
  • Baggage disinfection
  • Elimination of self-serve food and beverage, so that utensils are handled only by employees
  • Special protocols for the care and isolation of guests with symptoms
  • Place signs in common areas with instructions for guests who are not feeling well and are experiencing fever or COVID-19 symptoms and information about how to contact the hotel’s medical professionals.

Hotels started working on establishing these new protocols back in June, and most of them are now compliant and open for guests.

The above lists are a summary of the most popular hotels/areas. There could be smaller boutique hotels or villas that are in fact open, but we do not have the information available to us at this time.

The above lists could change at any time. Hotels could close suddenly, or reopening dates could be delayed due to not meeting regulations and requirements set by the National Association of Hotels.

Travelers should contact their hotel directly before their trip to double-check. If you do not have a contact number or email address on your booking confirmation, try to Google the resort, or look them up on Facebook.

Now that you know which hotels are open and ready for guests, here are a few additional questions you might have about visiting the Dominican Republic during the pandemic.

Are guests allowed to leave resorts/hotels in Dominican Republic?

Yes.

The Dominican Republic is not as restricted as some other Caribbean islands, like Jamaica for example, who aim to keep tourists in the resorts for the duration of their stay.

However, from September 28, there is a nationwide curfew (all cities and provinces) from Monday through Friday from 9 pm to 5 am, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 pm to 5 am.  You’ll need to be back on hotel property during those curfew hours.

If you have to catch a plane or switch hotels during curfew hours, you are permitted as long as you can prove your journey with a flight ticket or hotel booking confirmation.

Are masks mandatory?

Yes.

Wearing a mask in most public spaces in the Dominican Republic is mandatory.

Hotels will post where/when you are required to wear them inside the property. (Example: some properties may not require them beside the pool, etc.)

What are the entry requirements for traveling to the Dominican Republic?

To sum it up: All countries can visit, and no mandatory tests or quarantines are required. Random testing to 3%-10% of arrival may be applied.

There are a few more details you want to know about entry requirements before you go, which is why we made this guide: “Dominican Republic: Covid-19 Entry Requirements” to answer all your questions.
