Punta Espada renowned #1 in the Caribbean and Mexico by the Golfweek magazine.

The Punta Espada Golf Course, located in Cap Cana residential and tourist destination, was selected for the twelfth time by Golfweek magazine as number 1 of the 50 best golf courses of 2022 in Mexico, the Caribbean, the Atlantic Islands, and Central America, who held this position for 11 consecutive years since 2008.

Golfweek’s courses are evaluated by hundreds of members of Golfweek’s rating panel based on 10 fundamental criteria. Likewise, a single general qualification is presented in each field, which is averaged to produce the final cumulative and is compared with others in the entire region.

Golfweek’s Best 2022 list focuses on the golf courses themselves, and not the resorts as a whole or other amenities. Each golf course that is included is listed based on its average rating from 1 to 10, its location, its architect, and the year it was opened.

Jorge Subero Medina, executive president of Cap Cana, said he felt great pride in the great progress that the city has today and highlighted that Punta Espada is one of the flagships of the destination and one of the main characteristics that the city has established as a Country Brand.

The fundamental evaluation criteria to classify golf courses are the ease and intimacy of the layout; the integrity of its classic original design and the quality of its modeling pointing to modernity; the natural environment and general plan of the land; the interest of the greens and the surrounding contours; the variety and memorability of pairs 3, 4 and 5; the basic quality of its conditioning; landscape and tree management, as well as the walk in the park test.

In the top ten positions this year 2022 are Punta Espada in Cap Cana Dominican Republic with a score of 7.74, designed by Jack Nicklaus in 2006; Dunes Course in Diamantes Mexico with a score of 7.64 designed by Davis Love III in 2009; Diente de Perro in Casa de Campo La Romana with a score of 7.52 designed by Pete Dye in 1971.

Also Apes Hill Club in St. James Barbados with a score of 7.38 designed by Chris Cole and Jeff Potts in 2009; Punta Mita Golf Club in Nayarit Mexico with 7.28 points designed by Jack Nicklaus in 1999; Likewise Mid Ocean Club in Tucker’s Town in Bermuda with a rating of 7.25 designed by Seth Raynor in 1921; Sandy Lane in St. James Barbados with a score of 7.19 designed by Tom Fazio in 2004.

While the other positions are occupied by Corales Punta Cana Resort & Club in Punta Cana with a score of 7.14 designed by Tom Fazio in 2010; Punta Mita Golf Club Bahía in Nayarit Mexico with a score of 7.07 designed by Jack Nicklaus in 2009, and Royal Westmoreland in St. James Barbados with a score of 7.04 designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., in 1994.
