THE DR JAZZ FESTIVAL HAND IN HAND WITH CAP CANA CONQUERS THE PUNTA CANA REGION

This summer edition will have a magnificent representation with award winning exponents of the jazz genre

The XXII version of the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival will be held for the first time in the East coast of the Dominican Republic, with a musical repertoire in “Los Establos”, of Cap Cana, on August 25 at 8:00 P: M.

The annual musical event is organized by the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival Educational Foundation, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, and this time the summer edition is sponsored mainly by Cap Cana, Karisma Hotels and Resorts, the US Embassy, Lifestyle and Cristal Oasis.

In this version, the Berklee Global Jazz Institute and the Italian-American saxophonist Marco Pignataro will participate. The main artist will be Terri Lyne Carrington and her quintet, who has already been awarded a Grammy on three occasions, and who will be paying tribute to the late Geri Allen, one of the most important jazz pianists.

Carrington is also a renowned drummer, vocalist, composer and producer, who has played with many of the great exponents of jazz, among them: Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Clark Terry, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, among others. She is currently a professor at Berklee College of Music and Artistic Director of the Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival.

The musical band, in addition to Lyne, will be integrated by Ingrid Jensen, on the trumpet; Kenny Davis, on bass and Ian Fink, on piano. In addition, the composer and percussionist of electronic music, DJ Val Jeanty, will be participating, who will be in charge of a quite innovative proposal.

Jeanty is a versatile Haitian artist who uses rhythm boxes, samples and turntables to produce music with sculptural and spiritual dimensions.

 

The closing of the night will be in charge of the accordionist Krency García -El Prodigio- and his special guest will be Sandy Gabriel.

 

The president of the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival Educational Foundation, FEDUJAZZ, Mrs. María Elena Gratereaux, informed that during this delivery of the festival, concerts, workshops, master classes and jam session with participating artists will be held.

 

She indicated that this musical tour will continue on October 26th in Santiago, on the 28th in Santo Domingo, on November 1st in Puerto Plata, on November 2nd in Sosúa and will close in Cabarete on November 3rd and 4th.

 

She reminded that the DR Jazz Festival is a completely free event, where a limited number of VIP tickets are sold for purely charitable purposes to the music program of FEDUJAZZ.
